THE PATIENT JOURNEY

1. FREE CONSULTATION

We offer a complimentary video consultation with our treatment coordinator or Specialist Orthodontist, where we will talk about the different appliance options and approximate costs of treatment so that you’re fully aware of all the possibilities.

After this you can book for in person full clinical assessment with our orthodontist.

You can also start the journey straight away by booking for a full clinical assessment with our specialists without need for any free or video consults stages.

2. RECORDS

Before you attend our practice, we will send you a few forms to complete, these are all completed digitally for your convenience. Feel free to download your forms from our patient information section. If you have any questions, a member of our team will be happy to assist you.

3. TREATMENT PLANNING

When you attend our practice, we will take clinical photographs, x-rays and a 3D scan that will show a simulation of your new smile. You will be provided with a comprehensive treatment plan and all-inclusive quotation by your Orthodontist after a detailed assessment - there are no hidden costs. Our simple quotation includes your orthodontic treatment from start to finish and includes our 12-month aftercare service.

4. CONSENT

Following your consultation, we will give various treatment and appliance options with risk and benefit of each, and then see you for answering any questions you may have and consenting for your treatment. You can take your time to decide what would be a good option for you. Our team will do the best we can to help you in this journey and when you are ready, we can embark on treatment.

5. FIT APPLIANCE

Congratulations you are starting your treatment!

This appointment consists of either fitting removable appliances, aligners, expansion appliances, mini screws, and clear or metal braces. Your appointments will be explained to you in detail, including the sequence in which they will occur.

  • We will provide you with an initial comprehensive brace care pack and instructions.
  • You can download all instructions from our brace care section.
  • If you have any problems, please phone us or email us. We will arrange an emergency appointment if necessary.
  • Please remember to book your next appointment and we will remind you by email before you attend your appointment.

6. REVIEW PROGRESS AND ADJUSTMENT APPOINTMENTS

Our goal is to see you between six and twelve weeks, depending on what braces/aligners you are wearing. At these appointments, we adjust your braces and monitor your progress. In addition, we will advise you to help maintain excellent oral hygiene and provide you with tips on how to do this effectively. We will keep you updated and explain what we have accomplished and what we plan to do for your next visit. These appointments continue until we are ready to complete your treatment and remove braces/aligners.

7. BRACE REMOVAL AND FIT RETAINERS

The day has come to reveal your beautiful smile.

This appointment will involve removing your braces/attachments and revealing a set of beautiful teeth worth smiling about!

During this appointment:

  • We will take photos and scan your teeth to make retainers.
  • There will be two appointments at this stage, one to remove braces. This is followed by an appointment the next day to fit the removable retainers.
  • Remember to wear the retainers as advised and do not lose them. See our retainer care leaflet.
  • We will provide you with a comprehensive retainer care pack.

8. EXTRA RETAINERS

  • There will be a fee for lost or damaged retainers.
  • After completion of brace treatment, some of our patients require tooth whitening, crowns, veneers, implants or edge or composite bonding. We will be delighted to work with a dentist to ensure the best possible outcome. Following any restorative work, you may need to replace your retainers. The information on cost for replacement retainers will be given to you. Please liaise with us to update on when other treatment appointments are booked with your general dentist. We aim to work in tandem with these appointments to ensure the retention of your smile!

9. RETAINER REVIEWS, AFTERCARE, AND DISCHARGE

We will monitor your retainers for 12 months from the date of completion of brace treatment. This often involves 2-3 visits per year. We will need to check your retainers' fit, so please bring them with you for all retainer review appointments.

Following a year after brace removal we will discharge you from our care. However, if you have any problems with your retainers, please contact us and we can see you to help you with that. Replacement retainer’s fees can be found in our fees section.

Clinical Assessment

A Specialist Orthodontist will assess if you qualify for NHS treatment and discuss your smile goals

Clinical Records

You’ll have photographs, 3D scans, and x-rays taken to help us create a treatment plan.

Treatment Planning and consent

We’ll present your treatment options and ask for your consent to start treatment.

Brace Fit

The start of your treatment - your brace fit appointment will take approximately 20-60minutes. We will give you all the information you need on how to care for your new braces.

Progress and Adjustments

Every 6-10 weeks you’ll see us to make minor adjustments and review your progress.

Brace Removal

It’s smile day! We’ll carefully remove your braces and take scans to create your retainers.

Retainer Fit

24hrs after your brace removal we’ll give you retainers to keep your teeth straight.

Retainer Reviews

You’ll see us every 2-3 more times to check that your retainers are still fitting well. Don’t forget to bring them with you!

Discharge

Congratulations! You’re ready to be discharged from our care. If you ever have any problems in the future we’re always happy to see you!
