What is Invisalign®?

Invisalign® treatment uses a series of near-invisible, custom-made aligners that straighten and gradually move teeth into the desired position - without the need for traditional metal wires or brackets. The flexible clear aligners are removable, allowing you to eat completely normally and maintain your oral health routine throughout treatment.

Correct diagnosis, meticulous treatment planning and precise prescriptions by a trained specialist orthodontist make all the difference in achieving an outstanding result. At Bright Orthodontics, every Invisalign® case is planned and managed by a GDC-registered specialist - not a general dentist with aligner training.

Specialist credentials All treating orthodontists at Bright Orthodontics hold postgraduate specialist qualifications including membership of the Royal College of Surgeons. Our clinical team has published research in orthodontics and holds dual Royal College recognition across the practice.

With Invisalign® there is no need for messy physical moulds. We use the iTero intraoral scanner, which produces an accurate 3D digital scan of your teeth and gums. After a thorough diagnosis and consent process, your specialist orthodontist creates a bespoke treatment plan and uses ClinCheck software to produce a digital reconstruction of your tooth movements from start to finish - which you can review before treatment begins.

The benefits of Invisalign® clear aligners

Invisalign® is an effective treatment option and a practical alternative for patients who do not want visible fixed braces. The clear aligners fit comfortably over your teeth and do not require changes to what you eat or how you live day to day.

Discreet straightening

The clear plastic material makes the aligners virtually invisible. There is no need to disclose you are having treatment. Aligners can be removed on specific occasions where preferred.

Predictable treatment planning

Your specialist orthodontist uses ClinCheck software to plan every individual tooth movement before treatment starts. You can see the planned final position in a digital simulation at your assessment appointment.

Comfort and convenience

The smooth, thin plastic produces less soft tissue irritation than fixed brace brackets. Aligners are removed for eating, drinking, and oral hygiene - no dietary restrictions apply during treatment. Sports players can wear gum shields over their aligners or remove them during contact sport. Brass and woodwind musicians can remove aligners during practice and performance.

Varied and versatile

Invisalign® is suitable for adults and teenagers across a wide range of presentations. Bespoke treatment planning allows your orthodontist to avoid moving specific teeth where short root lengths or reduced bone support make this clinically appropriate - addressing cases that some fixed appliances cannot.

Finance options

Invisalign® treatment at Bright Orthodontics is available through monthly payment plans as shown above. Finance is provided by Embrace Orthodontics Limited, authorised and regulated by the Financial Conduct Authority (FCA reference 937585). The process

How Invisalign® treatment works

After a thorough diagnosis and consent process, your specialist orthodontist creates a bespoke treatment plan and prescribes a series of individual tooth movements. Aligner customisation is computerised and fabrication is laboratory based.

Free initial consultation

Your first appointment is with a specialist orthodontist or treatment coordinator. We assess your suitability for Invisalign®, discuss your concerns, and answer your questions. There is no charge and no obligation to proceed.

Full clinical assessment

Your specialist orthodontist carries out a comprehensive examination including clinical photographs, a 3D digital scan using the iTero scanner, and any X-rays required for diagnosis. A treatment recommendation is made based on the clinical findings.

ClinCheck treatment planning

Your orthodontist designs your treatment using ClinCheck software, which produces a detailed digital simulation of every planned tooth movement through to the final position. This involves meticulous planning between your specialist and the Invisalign® technicians. You can review this simulation before consenting to treatment.

Aligner fit

Once your aligners are manufactured, your specialist fits your first series of trays and places any tooth-coloured attachments required. These discreet attachments make a significant difference to the precision of planned tooth movements. You leave with your aligners and full care instructions.

Wearing your aligners

Each aligner in the series produces a small, programmed movement designed by your orthodontist. Aligners are worn for one to two weeks before moving to the next in the series. Consistent wear of 20 to 22 hours per day produces reliable, comfortable movement and allows each subsequent aligner to fit correctly.

Progress monitoring

Your orthodontist monitors tooth movements throughout treatment and will intervene to modify prescriptions and provide a revised set of aligners where needed. Review appointments are typically every eight to ten weeks.

Completion and retention

On completion of aligner treatment, final records are taken and your retainers are made and fitted. Bright Orthodontics monitors retainer fit for 12 months following completion of treatment. Retainer wear is essential long-term - without it, teeth will gradually move back towards their original position.

Digital scanning technology

The iTero scanner - digital impressions, no moulds

At Bright Orthodontics, we use the iTero intraoral scanner at all five locations. The scanner is a compact, hand-held wand that captures a precise 3D digital model of your teeth and gums using optical technology - without the need for physical dental impressions.

Our specialist orthodontists use the scans to analyse how your teeth look and interact with each other in three planes of space. This depth of data supports accurate diagnosis and treatment planning, and feeds directly into the Invisalign® ClinCheck software.

Because your teeth and gums are unique, the iTero scanner also allows us to show you a simulation of how your teeth can change with orthodontic treatment - before you commit to anything.

Common questions

Frequently asked questions about Invisalign®

How long does Invisalign® treatment take?

Treatment time depends on case complexity. Minor cases using Invisalign® 20 Dual can complete in six to nine months. Most Invisalign® Full cases are complete within 12 to 18 months, though more complex presentations may take up to 24 months. Your specialist will give you a realistic timeframe at your clinical assessment.

How many hours a day do I need to wear my aligners?

It is required to wear them for around 22 hours a day. They are removed for eating, drinking anything other than water, and for brushing and flossing. Consistent wear is the single most important factor in achieving the planned result on time.

Is Invisalign® painful?

Most patients experience mild pressure for the first day or two after switching to a new aligner tray. This is a normal response to programmed tooth movement and typically settles within 48 hours. Patients generally find Invisalign® less uncomfortable than fixed braces - a view consistent with what our own patients report.

Can Invisalign® correct my bite as well as straighten my teeth?

Yes. Invisalign® Full can address a range of bite issues including overbite, underbite, crossbite, and open bite, depending on severity. Complex bite corrections may require additional features such as precision bite ramps, elastics, or attachments. Your specialist orthodontist will assess your bite as part of the full clinical examination.

Is Invisalign® suitable for teenagers and children?

Yes. Invisalign® Teen is designed for teenage patients with developing dentitions and includes compliance indicators and allowance for erupting teeth. Invisalign® Junior is available for younger patients in the mixed dentition phase. Your orthodontist will assess which option is most appropriate at your child's consultation.

Being an adult getting braces can be an anxious time and it has been for me. I have seen other orthodontists before and never felt comfortable or supported. Finding Bright Orthodontics has been life changing for me. I have been supported through every step of the process. Things have been broken down, no questions where stupid questions and most of all my anxiety has been reduced in this.
