We’ve referred you elsewhere – let us explain why!

Occasionally correcting your bite is more complex than simply re-aligning your teeth. We refer patients who have more complex dental or skeletal problems that possibly require intervention or we need to work together with a Hospital Consultant Orthodontist to maximise the benefit of your treatment.

You/your child may be referred for hospital treatment if:

  • There are significant problems with the growth of one or both jaws that may require orthodontic treatment at the hospital.
  • Significant problems with the growth of one or both jaws and/or you have an asymmetry of the jaws that may require orthodontic treatment at the hospital later for jaw surgery.
  • They present with several missing teeth that require treatment at the hospital service.
  • They have one or more impacted (unerupted) teeth that require treatment at the hospital service.
  • Complex problems with one or more impacted (unerupted) teeth that may have eating (resorbing) away roots of adjacent teeth require treatment at the hospital service.
  • Children who have complex medical conditions that require treatment at the hospital service.
  • Children who have complex syndromes or clefts that require treatment at the Alderhey children’s hospital service.

In certain circumstances, we may see you back at our practice for treatment following the advice provided by the Hospital Consultant Orthodontist, or you will continue your treatment at the hospital.
